I bought this for my mother-in-law, who wanted to put the hundreds of LPs sitting in her living room on her new Ipod Classic. Initial setup of the turntable was straightforward, and we were listening to classic James Taylor in minutes. Putting that same music on the Ipod and being able to catalog it was a bit more difficult, but not impossible.

One thing that threw my for a loop was the actual process of recording. I was very worried at first that her Ipod wouldn't be compatible, even though I had checked and cross-checked before purchasing the turntable. The 'record' function on the Ipod didn't appear until it was docked with the turntable. Once I docked it, easy peasy.

I found the included software to be a bit cumbersome to record whole albums, so we decided to just pick the songs we wanted, record them on the voice recorder, and then convert them on the computer. It's not as seamless as I was hoping for, but I can't complain about the quality.

If you have a lot of albums and don't want to buy the CD's, this is the way to go. Don't plan on doing it all in one weekend though, as you have to (nay, GET to) listen to the whole song (or album) and babysit the record and pause buttons on the turntable.

The moment I removed the Ion LPDock USB Turntable from its box I realized that purchasing it was a mistake.

I am shocked at extremely poor quality in design, materials and assembly.

The case, made of cheap and thin plastic, looks flimsy and ready to break at the lightest touch. The unit feels very light, unlike any turntables I've used. Platter lining, made of packaging-like material (not rubber like it should be) feels ready to break.

The tone arm came in 3 pieces: a very cheap cartridge, decent S-shaped main piece, and balancer with a plastic dial at the end. Needle pressure setup instructed rotating the balancer to find balance point (zero pressure), and then rotate counterclockwise to find 3.5 gram pressure. Dial weight numbers increased clockwise, so finding proper needle pressure took many attempts. I finally set it up by trial and error.

On/off button is inconveniently located towards the back of the unit. I pressed it, then pressed a large play/pause button. Platter began to spin, but the tonearm remained motionless. Amazing, but true: this unit does not have automatic tonearm cueing; you have to bring it up to beginning of the record by hand!

All records sounded flat, with almost on bass and brittle, harsh upper tones. Poor electrical components complement cheap unit housing well.

I've tried connecting my three Ipods: Nano, Classic and Touch to a flimsy docking station, inconveniently located in the far left corner of the unit, making it impossible to close the optional $40 plastic dust cover with Ipod connected.

An array of buttons operated play/pause and menu/scroll functions, but no sound came out from any of my 3 ipods through the turntable and I was unable to record from vinyl to any of them. Instruction manual lists which ipods the turntable works with (5th generation, etc.). Not one of my ipods, including the latest Classic and Touch could play through or record from this turntable. Even Ipod recharge function did not work.

In short this $200+ turntable plays records very poorly, and does not record from vinyl to ipod as claimed.

I received the USB Turntable. I have an ipod that is listed as compatible, but it is not recording. I have emailed tech and they sent me a compatibility chart which I used. Now I'm waiting a response to my "it's compatible, so now what?" question.

delivery was good and unit was in perfect condition.

The instructions for setting up the unit was easy to follow.

My wife and I are happy with this Turntable.

when it gets done playing a record, the arm will not retract automatically. You have to manually pick the arm up and put it back.

If you forget to do this, it will keep turning with the needle on the record.

I personally do not mind lifting it manually.

other than that, the turntable is good. It was a good purchase.

I really do like this product a whole lot. Assembling the record player wasn't really difficult and took about half an hour tops. As for the software that comes with it, I don't like it at all. I personally use Audacity which is free for download and more versatile. But the sound quality is good, and I bubble with excitement each time I put in a record. C'est magnifique!

many things you can do with this table, but I bought it to play my old vinyl 70's-90's far out classes my old table, easy to set up good instructions, included cartridge works very well, a lot of my albums have scratches after all these years (I have about 200) and with the tone arm balanced you don't get the pop and crackle I got with my old table and no album sticks makes all but the worst sound new again. For the price you can't go wrong.

This is an excellent turntable for the price, but if your goal is to make CDs or MP3s of your music you can save $35 by purchasing the bare bones version of this turntable that does not come with the adapter cable and Cakewalk software (identical machine, same model number except for the S at the end). I bought this one for $175, including cable and software, and found that the cable is useless for my computers because it has an RCA plug instead of the necessary mini jack, and the Cakewalk software was difficult to use and very badly documented. For $10 I bought the correct cable at a nearby Radio Shack, and I downloaded free Audacity software which does exactly what you would use Cakewalk for, works flawlessly and has better documentation. I am now happily converting my LPs into mp3 files. I would have saved $25 and several hours of frustration by purchasing the bare bones version of this turntable.

Other than that, this is very much the solid machine described in the other reviews. I found it easy to set up and the sound is excellent even with the supplied cartridge. Unless you are an audiophile or DJ and planning to play the music through high powered amp and speakers you will do just fine with this turntable and the supplied cartridge.

This record player spins approximately 10-15% too fast when on the lowest setting. It's not a huge difference, but it's just enough to get annoying and ruin the music. This brand has put out multiple machines with this problem, so I would recommend getting a refund for the purchase rather than exchanging it.

I bought this record player about three years ago. I wasn't too impressed with the sound. It has just two small speakers on the front with little amplification. I had to modify this product somewhat to create the sound that I was looking for. I took the bottom of the record player off. I then spliced speaker wires and connected them to a sub woofer amplifier. This amp. had speaker out connections to amplify the sound to external speakers. I kept the front speakers as well for the higher end sound spectrum. Sounds more complicated than it really was. Now it plays loud and clear. It is quite hard to find a record player that has stack ability so this is the feature that I enjoy most. Now I have a great record collection and am able to listen with pleasure.

This is a solid, solid product (literally, it is really heavy) and for the price gives you a great value. I didn't buy it to DJ with, but rather as a recording device to transfer lp's and especially old 78's to the computer.

One note, despite what some websites say, this turntable, like other high end units, does NOT come with a cartridge. It uses a universal headshell, though, so getting a cartridge shouldn't be hard. Most high end turntables come without a cartridge, so this shouldn't be a surprise.

As far as the bundled software goes, the package with this isn't that great, but most of the bundled packages aren't much beyond basic recording. Audacity, which is a freeware product, is decent,but if you want to do really heavy duty recording it would be better to purchase something like Nero. This product is sold as a pro turntable, so it isn't surprising that it doesn't come with great recording software, since pro's will already have software.

It can be finicky to adjust this, and the instructions are not necessarily that easy to follow. However, it isn't hard to set this up, and even the balancing, which some people complain about, isn't hard, and once done it makes adjusting the weight on the cartridge a breeze.

In playback, because the unit is so rugged, it doesn't skip when you walk by it as cheaper turntables with and makes it a pleasure to work with. The other nice feature is that you can fine tune the motor speed, which especially for older recordings that were recorded too high, makes it easy to play them back as they were supposed to be. The unit has digitial metering for pitch, that makes this easy to do.

One note, like many modern turntables, this unit features a line out/phono setting on the rca output. The phono is supposed to be for using in units that don't have a phono input, to stop you from having to have a phono pre amp. What I found, using this with a Bose wavesystem, is that the line out is the way to do it, the phono doesn't work, I suspect that is only needed on older units. Some people on other places have said they needed a pre amp, try unsing the line out if the phono doesn't work...

Overall, a good unit, and a value for the money.

If you're just looking for a way to rip your vinyl to MP3's, there are much cheaper and easier ways to do it. Check out Audio Technica AT-LP2DUSB LP-to-Digital Recording System with USB, Ion iTTUSB Turntable with USB Record or Numark TTUSB Turntable with USB for example.

This product is made for DJ's, and as a professional DJ turntable it is an excellent product. The USB interface gives you a handy way to rip your vinyl to your hard drive if you're moving toward a digital DJ setup, but that feature is just icing on the cake. Its strong, variable torque makes it ideal for scratch DJ's or for fast startups. It's very solid and heavy which means fewer skips at live gigs. It has a built in BPM counter for beat matching. It can also be reconfigured for "battle-style" configurations. Pair it up with a good cartridge like the Shure M44-7H Scratch Cartridge with Headshell and you're good to go. I've used Technics SL-1200's professionally and I actually prefer these decks, and they are much less expensive than the 1200's.

This product was an utter disappointment as an easy way to convert vinyl to MP3's. After reading reviews and product specs, I bought the Numark TTXUSB and bundled software as a gift for my father as an easy way to convert vinyl to MP3's. Right out off the box I was disappointed to learn that the $340+ price tag doesn't include a cartridge.

In testing this product with three different records (Rolling Stones - Sticky Fingers; Fleetwood Mac - Rumors, & Kansas - Point of Know Return) over the course of ~8hrs, never was I able to transfer a complete album to MP3. When using the bundled software, I also experienced intermittent digital noise with the EZ Vinyl Converter software that was not present with the Audacity software.

If you are looking for an easy way to convert records to MP3, this would not be my choice. The record player works well as a player, however the EZ Vinyl Converter 2 software that should enable you to easily record to MP3 falls short of being easy and had frequent hiccups including intermittent digital noise, a time consuming track titling confirmation/correction process (not quick and easy), and failed imports to iTunes (note: when all songs failed to import into iTunes, the entire vinyl to MP3 process had to be repeated). The Audacity software on the other hand works to import music as an MP3 file, however the automatic process for breaking the single file apart into discrete tracks was not always accurate (requiring review and manual adjustments) and then manually titling each track is not a trivial amount of time either.

If you are looking to convert a handful of records, $340 (for the TTX-USB) + $20-$100 (for a cartridge) goes a long way to purchase MP3 files or used CD's.

I requested a full refund from Amazon since the product failed to operate consistently and reliably with the bundled software as specified by the manufacturer. Amazon was 100% first rate in their customer service and took the item back with a full refund. This is the definition of customer satisfaction that brick and mortar stores sadly lack these days.

Feels nice under your hand. However, as previously mentioned, the lag on load time is horrendous. 30 seconds is a *very* long time to a dj. Concerning the FX, one of which is to emulate the actual sound of vinyl on a 1200 being pitched up and down just sounds harsh and digital -like a poor timestretch algorithm. I like and use Technics 1200s but this product is a failure. Stick with CD-Js from Pioneer, if you need CD -or move to Traktor/Final Scratch/Serato Scratch Live, if you want the vinyl feel. [This review is based on actual club use, by a professional dj].

When I first bought the Technics SL-DZ1200, I bought it more for the looks then anything. Actually I would rarely get on it for the first few months, maybe once every 2-3 weeks. When I actually started to learn its features, and mix it with my crossfader mixer's FX, then I think I fell in love. Mind you, if you want really mind blowing FX, you'll probably have to connect it to some other unit, but apart from that, The scratching is pretty good, some times, when I practice, the scratch actually sounds like a Vinyl (Not Always), but the more I practice with it, the more closer it sounds to it. Like the first review said, it does take some time for the CD to load, but hey, isnt everything in life like that? Buy some other CD Turntable, and it will probably beat Technics in some areas, but then Technics will do the same in the other areas. You win and lose, regardless.

So just look better then the other people. ;-)

If you plan on using your unit for real gigs, BEWARE. It takes at least 30 seconds from the moment the deck accepts your cd to the moment you can actually start cueing it up. NOT GOOD.

I have 2 of these but they've been relegated to weddings because they look amazing and attract a lot of attention. But that's it.

If you run into problems, good luck on getting technical support. I've had to learn to deal with one of my units randomly skipping across cd's because the certified technicians were never able to duplicate or find root cause.

Oh, and check out what your local bars and clubs are using because I guarantee you it's not the sl-dz1200.

I actually bought this on sale at a local store recently and absolutely love it!!!

The playback on the record player is excellent, the radio has excellent reception and the CD player works great too.

The cherry colored cabinetry is absolutely beautiful and of good quality. The record player plays 33s, 45s & 78s, and, as the model name suggests, does have a record changer. I've had up to 4 LPs on it so far and it works great. No black plastic 45s adaptor though. Instead it comes with 8 red plastic inserts that you put in the holes of the records so you can play your 45s. At first, I wondered if these would be a pain to use; but once I got the knack of putting them in the holes (which didn't take long), I could get them in and out easily. There is no tape deck with this model.

So if you're looking for a good quality, excellent working 3-speed record player with changer, with a CD player and radio, this is an excellent buy and worth every penny!!! I highly recommend it!!!

Well made, striking, fast shipping, and it works wonderfully. Much better and less expensive than a plastic Mitchell clamp I was using.

The unthreaded spindle hole will fit both my turntables, a VPI with threads and an old AR. Very easy to handle (sometimes my Mitchell

would fall apart as it has two pieces that requires fumbling with).

The Bren1 works great on 45 records, too, but you'll need to use those plastic inserts that snap into the center of the 45.

I wanted to make note that when you buy any '1200 from KAB you automatically get not only the hinge kit installed, but you get the thicker audiophile mat and a full QC inspection as well. I was very anxious to buy this turntable as I have longed to return to the more inspiring sounds of vinyl. Something about an LP spinning on the platter better replicates the audible excitment of a live performance. And there is something really neat about a spinning disc on a turntable. The turntable is the shrine and flipping or switching an LP is the ritual. It is a primal and ceremonial process. I have a vast inventory of CD's, and while they do often sound better nowadays due to remastering, they still don't have the electric sizzle of an LP, even with the crackles, hissing, and cleaning hassles. And, I was willing to pay for a quality product, which this clearly is.

The axiom "Less is more" comes into play here, however. I was, quite frankly, seduced by the "30th Anniversary" appeal of this particular version of the legendary SL 1200, as well as by the warm blue lights and brushed steel against the black metal case which come on this edition. And, yes, the thing is indeed great looking and well built.

The problem? The dust cover does not attach at all! It simply sits on the turntable! Talking about primitive! You have to find a place to put it while you're flipping the vinyl! (I have to put it on the floor, and just pray that my young kids or my Mini Schnauzer don't come along and jump on it!) It is a total hassle to do this, and when you put it back on it takes a lot of concentration to align it correctly. Likewise, you have to be careful to not knock the tonearm while it is playing. This is a glaring design defect in my opinion.

I called Technics to see if hinges could be obtained. I spent almost 2 hours on the phone and was transferred between various people about a dozen times. I finally got someone who grudgingly investigated the situation. (I could barely hear the guy; Panasonic's phone system needs an upgrade.) I would need to buy 17 parts (including an entirely new dustcover, according to him) to attach the cover to the base. I'm not sure of the price of all these components, but given what I paid for this expensive unit, I'm not inclined to shell out more. Then there would be the project of assembling it all, sans instructions.

Bottom-line: I'm furious. Other than DJ's, who in the world would want a turntable without an attached dustcover?????? And, at a minimum, the fact that it does not attach should be highly emphasized in the product description. (The listing says "detachable" which implies that it attaches, by definition.) (Update: the description was modified in one place after I complained to Technics.)

So, I should have bought a lesser version of this turntable (wherein the dustcovers are hinged to the units, which I think is true for most versions of the SL 1200) and saved a couple hundred bucks as well as the grief of having a product that doesn't meet my needs. I think this is a send-back, which is a hassle, and I'm out the shipping costs, both ways, because I did not buy this directly from Amazon but rather from an affiliated seller.

****UPDATE 12 APRIL 2009*****Many thanks to the person who advised me that KAB USA had hinge kits for a reasonable price. I ordered one and had it within 2 days. They installed easily and they work perfectly...the set holds the dustcover open very solidly. They definitely match the quality of the overall machine, and for my purposes (and I would presume most home audiophile listeners) they are a necessary element to a comfortably usable machine. Why they are not included in the basic package is beyond me. The dustcover still pulls off easily for those who want it out of the way. And why Technics does not sell a simple little hinge install-kit like KAB offers is also surprising. As I said, they gave me a list of 17 components I needed to buy. 17!!!

Now, apparently some DJ-types feel that hinges for the dustcover lid are unnecessary garbage....I guess the dustcover gets in the way of scratching up all that good vinyl or whatever. Those of us who want hinges on our dustcovers are, according to them, I guess, shallow poseurs in the turntable world. Our motivations are suspect. We're not cool enough for a Technic turntable, etc. Well, indeed, I'm not a scratcher. I want to simply listen to music, not compensate for an inability to play an instrument. And, for many of us who don't live in the basement at our mom's home, we reserve such emphatic passions and judgments for other interests....like girls and global warming!! But these guys are all worked up over my preference for hinges on my dustcover lid. I've committed heresy by complaining about this missing feature!! It is just not tolerated!

Now that I can open and close the lid, I'm very happy. Amazon won't let me add stars, but I'd now give it FOUR STARS (having deducted one for the hassle of having to make calls to locate the hinges, etc.). If, like me, you want a great turntable but you also want a connected dustcover, buy this model and get the hinges from KAB. You'll be set up for a few decades with a premier rock and roll machine.

As for any vinyl vs. CD debate, I think this turntable decisively concludes the issue for me: I repeatedly switched back and forth between the same album on CD and on vinyl, and the vinyl simply blows away the CD. No comparison at all. Even my Mini Schnauzer can tell the difference.

This turntable performs exceptionally well. I was able to get it up and running with absolutely no experience with vinyl turntables at all. It does come with a headshell, in case you were wondering, because I accidentally ordered another one too. If you're just getting started, there is a very helpful review I found on youtube that can teach you well how to set up the tonearm. It comes with a plastic dust-cover that doesn't attach. It also comes with a slipmat, and a cut wax sheet that helps with scratching. I highly recommend this turntable. Also, consider buying it from [...] it may be cheaper there.

I have owned turntables costing several thousand dollars in the past. They are getting older now and I thought new one in the reasonable price range but high quality. I put in my Shure V15xMR in the arm tracking at 1g. Perfect tracking - super low rumble and no hum at all with or wo grounding. The construction is first class. This is a super bargain - it has been improved over the years. Yes you can spend a lot more - this product delivers in all the important ways. For many it is not expensive enough and has low snob appeal. If a small company were to make this turntable - my guess it would cost around > 1500.00. Panasonic has been making it for over 30 years now! Rarely does a product remain available for such a long time. The reason - this is a masterpeice!

Recorded entire CDs with no problems. I agree the buttons are hard to read. Overall I would recommend it. I'm looking forward to getting rid of my records and most cassettes.

Before I bought this item, I scoured the web looking for reviews on it. All I could find was one reviewer on Amazon, who gave it 5 stars. Since it was, theoretically, exactly what I was looking for, I decided to try it. While the design is intentionally retro, it is near impossible to read the labels on the operating buttons. They're raised letters in exactly the same color/material as the background, so unless you're right in front of them and the light is on them at exactly the correct angle, they are just impossible to read. The manual presents instructions that are contradictory. It says to do one thing on one page and contradicts it 2 pages later. The cassette function is minimal. It consists of a slot and a single button. When you put the cassette in, it automatically starts playing. To get it to stop, you have to completely eject it. The only other function it does is fast forward, by pushing the button halfway in. So, to rewind, you have to flip the tape over and fast forward it! The CD functions work about half the time. It can be 'busy' forever, until you have to just shut the whole unit off and start over. I have recorded CD's that the machine doesn't recognize, won't finalize and simply won't play. I haven't yet tried the phono function. I'm going to play with it a little more, as I got 1 good CD out of it, but this is likely a return.

The size is nice for where I needed music, near my kitchen in dinet. The CDs slip off the track too easy and become dislodged...had to remove back to get one out. Follow-up: This one works perfectly. Would like the ability to control bass/treble independently rather than presets for sound patterns.

I purchased one of these 2 years ago and had to return it as the tapes didn't work. I purchased a second one and the tape player worked for about a dozen go rounds. The device then developed other intermitent problems. Not possible to have such thing repaired locally and the cost of shipping it back to Sony in CA along with repair costs are prohibitive so it's in the basement awaiting the next bulk trash pickup.

All this said I guess I will buy another one because it does serve it's purpose. I just hope the next one last more than two years.

I bought two of these 6 months ago and started DJing with them right out of the box (I average 5 gigs per month). They have out-performed any other turntable I've used in the past and that includes the 1200s. I think Numark should include target lamps and the s-arm with every deck but that's a minor gripe. At around $200 these Numarks make great back-up or main decks. I can not comment on them as far as scratching goes because I'm not a hip hop DJ.

That's about it. Oh, and it's pretty. My TT-200's have been such an enormous hassle to own. I don't like that the tone arm is so high up that if you use a low profile cart with the strait arm that the needle won't touch the record without that thick neoprene mat. I don't like how the power supply creates so much interference that Stanton 680 and Grado DJ200i will pick up EM hum from it. The Average Wow & Flutter is rated at better than 0.2%, but that is right at the margin of what is audible. There is no rating for Peak W&F, and from the slightly smeared highs on every cart you try (except for the harshest and brightest ones) I'd guess it's much worse than 0.2%. How much? I have no idea and I'd bet money that Numark doesn't know either.

I absolutely despise how when you try and slow down the record using friction the TT-200's motor can actually overcompensate and speed the record up! That's right. So let's say the record is indeed going too fast. You lower the pitch slightly, then you use your hand to slow the record momentarily even more for just a split second. On any other DJ deck I know of, doing this will have the desired effect, but on the TT-200 the motor may speed the record up. This has the effect of making you think the record must have instead been going too slow and that you were wrong, because now the tracks are even worse. But you weren't wrong, rather the turntable's motor is the problem! Hypothetically you should be able to switch to Butter Rugs to solve this problem, but then you run into the dilemma of the tone arm being too high. Incredible!! I've heard some people tell me this will make them a better mix DJ. Nope. You're going to find it very difficult to learn by ear when a record is too fast or too slow if the deck is constantly giving you incorrect feedback. About the only way it could possibly help you in learning is by forcing you to eventually mix exclusively using the pitch slider, but that assumes you ever figure out why you've been having such a hard time.

The last item I can't stand on ALL Numark decks (not just the TT-200) is the tone arm design. The bearings system they use simply is not sound. There's a reason why EVERY other turntable manufacturer in the DJ world (with the exception of Vestax's new self-adjusting model) use the tried and tested gimbal tone arm system. That's because it works. I've never managed to get any Numark table's tracking distortion down low enough to get Stanton or Grado carts from either skipping too much or distorting in the highs asymmetrically. Already one of my TT-200's tone arm bearings system has outright failed and needed to be replaced. Remember, this is the same tone arm base they use on all their tables. The only reason they've gravitated to this strait arm option is because their S-arms do not track as well as gimbal tone arms from other companies. Another telling factor is that Numark admitted to me they've never even tested for tracking distortion specs on their tables. Numark use to make great analog mixers; still do if you can find them. They also contributed to the development of the DJ CD player. Their company is one of innovation and advancement in the field of DJing products, but they have seriously got to revamp their turntable designs. Numark, hire some turntable experts from the 1970's (they're still around) and let them have at your turntable lineup. I can guarantee you can't do any worse than you've been doing in this department.

I bought a TT-200 about 2 years ago because a.) the price was right and b.) it plays 78 speed. I also paid an additional $30 or so for the optional S-shaped tone arm and pilot light. The fact that it has a universal headshell made it easy to switch between my microgroove cartridge and 78 cartridge, which are mounted on their own headshells.

At first I loved this turntable. It seemed solidly built and performed very well, with excellent tone. And it looked pretty sharp, too!

About a month after the warranty expired, the turntable motor went bad, and the table would not spin at the correct speed. I called Numark and they were cool about taking it back for repair at no charge. I have only good things to say about their customer service. Numark replaced the parts that went bad and shipped it back quickly.

Ten months later I noticed that my records seemed to skip a lot. It got so bad that the turntable couldn't even track some records at all! I tried replacing the stylus (with a quality Grado one, BTW) and made sure the tracking weight and anti-skating were properly adjusted. No dice.

My local audiophile repair shop confirmed that the tonearm pivot assembly had gone bad, and was not pivoting freely - that it was causing the tonearm to not move with the records' grooves.

At this point, I had had enough with this machine. Less than two years old and two parts had already gone wrong. Phooey.

I am expecting delivery of an Audio-Technica AT-PL120 today, which will hopefully last a bit longer than the Numark!

A TALE OF THREE CROSLEY ENTERTAINERS (CROSLEY CR78CD).

THE FIRST Crosley CR78CD that I owned was defective or damaged in shipping. The turntable speeds were all slower than they were supposed to be. It was impossible to play a 33 record at any speed. In addition, the turntable was crooked and off balance. The unit made sounds (clicks and static) when music was not playing. AM reception was okay,but FM reception was full of static.

THE SECOND ONE was a friend's Crosley. It played records, tapes and cassettes, and the sound was all right. Unfortunately, the FM reception was poor.

THE THIRD ONE: The replacement CR78CD that I received had the same problems with FM reception but played all the media adequately.

The style of this item is very attractive, especially the wood cabinet. It looks wonderful. Unfortunately, it needs an amplified indoor FM antenna ($14.00 - 60.00). However, it lacks a coaxial connector that would allow you to connect the Crosley to an indoor FM antenna. The audio components (CD drawer, controls, tone arm, speed level, turntable, cassette drawer) function but seem cheaply made. The tone arm looks as though it will break if used by a teenager or adult who is unfamiliar with record players.

In summary, I really like the appearance of the Crosley. A negative is that it needs an FM antenna, but, as I am told, it cannot be connected to one. It also needs owners that will treat it gently. It does look very attractive! If the CR78CD cost $ 100 or less, I would recommend it with these reservations.

I ordered this because I am a vinyl addicted... But, together with that, I'm a sound quality addicted too. The sound is really, really poor... I thought it was only the built-in speakers, but when I plugged it on my Phillips stereo 500w rms through RCA cable, I could barely hear the music and what I could hear was really, really bad! The needle that comes with it won't stop jumping when I play my records, even the ones I have bought recently, like Lady Gaga's "The Fame" and Madonna's "Sticky And Sweet". I am extremely disappointed and disatisfied, not only for my bad-spent 80 bucks, but I live in Brazil and I have to pay huge taxes to receive imports. Don't spend your money with this... And a slight detail that could bug somebody: the cover will close when you have a 12" vinyl inside, but its boards will be outsiding. It's really bad if you don't want dirt on it.

Just to make it clearer: the USB connection is only for flash-cards, it won't connect to your computer. That's why they say "no PC needed".

I received this item for my birthday a couple of years ago from my wife and it's been great converting my old LP collection to mp3 and then to CD. There are few products out there now that perform this function and I think I may need to replace my unit. Here are my pros and cons on this item:

Pros:

1. Self contained with built in speakers and AM/FM radio for stand alone recording listening.

2. You can also hook this unit up to your receiver and listen and record with much better sound through your reciever and speakers.

3. Multi-format storage of mp3 files. You can use a flash drive or memory card to store your recorded files and carry them to your computer for editing.

4. It's great to be able to listen to these old records, some not available on CD on my iPod, my computer and on CD all cleaned up and sounding better than ever.

Cons:

1. Software to remove noise, crackles and pops is not included.

2. After a few months the flash drive stopped working.

3. After about a year the memory drive is now having problems and I am about to have a only a traditional turntable left.

4. I needed to replace the needle/stylus and when I tried to contact Brookstone and I didn't get a reply. I did find a needle from an online dealer and it's worked well.

I am now looking for an upgrade. When I contacted the dealer for the needle they told me that Ion was comparable to this Brookstone unit, though there are several Ion units available. I also see a Sony, which looks like it may automtically perform the noise reduction which would reduce the time I spend running my files through Nero to remove the noise and breakup the tracks. This is an okay unit and it should you allow to get a good portion of your record collection digitized, but beware that there may be some problems and you may be looking for a replacement in a couple of years. Also, you'll need to invest in software to remove the noise and also to split tracks unless you want to record each song individually.

I agree with almost everything that people are saying, as the engineering is bad and this design should be pulled from the market. Instead of the rotten permanent cartridge design, they should have used a P-Mount to allow the user to determine which cartridge they wanted to use. However, the skipping problem is because of the plastic shaft on the stylus. The good people at LP Gear have a replacement stylus that has a metal shaft and an improve stylus. My son has this fix and the overall performance is now acceptable. If you have this turntable get the fix, as the cost is negligible and outcome is worth it.

Finally an affordable quality turtable by Denon....wait a minute.

It plays records okay, but just after two years of owning it, I'm sending it in for repairs. THESE ARE NOT BUILT WELL, SCRATCH EASILY, AND LOOK CHEAP!!!!! AND The lid never closed all the way. After spending money on a high end receiver, cd player, ipod docking station, infinity speakers, the "good" cables, I was really let down by how this looked/sounded/functioned (it is clunky at best). Examine one before you buy!!!

Save up your money, and buy a nicer (direct drive) unit. This is a prime example of getting what you pay for.

I thought I would take a risk with this turntable after reading the warnings from the other reviews about the variations in the speed of the belt drive. This causes noticeable changes in the pitch of the recording making it sound like your guitars or singing are out of tune, and is more noticeable towards the end of the record. You can actually see the strobe dots speeding up and slowing down! I have sent mine back to sony for a refund. If it wasnt for this problem, it would have been a good turntable with solid construction and decent sound.

I have had good experiences with sony but this is one that isn't one of them. Im not sure why sony is still selling this model after so many people are having the same problem. NOT recommended.

This turntable is fair for the price. But I would strongly recommend investing in another cartridge for better fidelity. I use my turntable for recording my record collection to my computer, and I also use it along with my other Sony PSLX350H, mixer and Serato Live to mix music. I have been very happy with this model as it has not given me any problems. The feet do a good job at keeping the rumble to a minimum.

When I bought mine, I also bought the Audio Technica 440ML (means micro line), and when you use this cartridge, you appreciate how good the arm really is (including magnetic anti-skate). I also use a felt mat and all can be bought at LP Gear. The pad helps eliminate normal vibration problems and helps eliminate static, and you can also buy special bases or rubber feet if you need more isolation. Understand this isn't cheap, and performs like the price ($400 with the cartridge and mat). If you want a bullet proof turntable, maybe it would be a good idea to look at some of the excellent direct drive models, S/N is not as good in this price range, but you can jump around (party atmosphere) and not have a lot of problems with a jumping stylus.

I've lowered the rating only because Denon should put a better cartridge and adjust the price, as they make some great cartridges.

"Satisfied with sound quality - upgraded needle" 2009-07-05

Summary - upgraded the needle to the affordable Shure M97xE audiophile cartridge. Sounds much better now. Hardest part of the setup for me was balancing the tone arm.

Installation - Since the turntable's headshell is removable from the tone arm, it wasn't as hard installing the Shure audiophile cartridge (paid only $58 at amazon.com)contrary to what some had said it was. However, for a nice tight grip, I had to insert the screw from below so that it was easier for me to use a small wrench to hold the nut above while I tightened the screw head (small screw driver provided).Although the receiver's manual had specific measurements on how far & what angle the needle should be from the head, at some point I just ignored it and made the best judgement I could.

Problems encountered - after installing the cartride on the headshell and tightening the whole assembly onto the tone arm, I balanced the tone arm. The manual says to make sure the tone arm is parallel/level to the record surface. I did. I pushed "start", the tone arm moved over the record but didn't play. After trying various things including reading up on 'trouble shooting' in the manual/online and almost giving up, I decided to adjust the weight some more. The tone arm was now heavy enough to drop down, and I heard some sound but it was skipping all over the record. Thinking rationally, I imagined that a stylus is supposed to sit in and follow the grooves, so it must be skipping because it's not dropping down deep enough onto the record. I adjusted the counter weight some more and then the needle didn't skip any more. Phew! Next I adjusted the counter weight to the opposite direction just to ensure the needle isn't digging too deeply into the record grooves so that it doesn't get ruined. Amazing sound. Second problem: I noticed that with the brush down (the Shure cartridge has a brush attached that is supposed to clean the record surface before the needle passes over the grooves), I had to adjust the counterweight again because the needle was skipping again. Once I did, the needle didn't skip anymore but I noticed that for me with the brush down, the sound isn't as clean, rich and full as it was without the needle so I decided to keep it up and not use it. This was smart because I played a brand new record after playing old records and noticed that the dirt picked up by the cartridge brush was getting deposited (by static electricity?)onto my new vinyl. I lifted up the brush. I don't think I'll be using the brush any more or at least only on an old dirty record. The only problem I have left to figure out is that when I push start, the tone arm moves and starts playing at the last song in the record instead of the first one. I'll figure this out soon, afterall, it's only been a couple of hours since I installed this turntable. I'm new to this; never owned a turntable before. To be honest,I never understood what the manual was talking about when it says use 2g or 1.75g for this cartridge and adjust the antiskating knob to thesame number. I just winged it! Hope I do not damage my cartridge...oh well, it's a learning experience.

Sound - the sound is amazing. It does sound better than a CD. I turned the volume very high that my glass window and kitchen glasses were shaking and rattling but the turntable kept playing! No skipping whatsoever. I don't know what the other reviewers were talking about. Now, when I tap or knock on the dust cover, the catridge picks it up and you'd hear it. But why on earth would you wanna do that for? Moreover, my large floor speakers stands on the right next to the turntable which is placed onto a shelf but none of the vibrations interferred with the sound. No hum is heard at all. On a brand new record, it's completely silent in between songs; the popping sounds are not heard. This turntable rules! You really gotta buy it to believe it...unless you're one of those die hard audiophiles who won't believe in a Denon but in a Debut III or Rega P1 (both of which I ruled out because these do not have built-in amplifiers so your receiver must have a phono input or you'll need to purchase a good quality external amplifier after shedding at least $400 on these babies!).

An overpriced toy. The table itself runs without discernable wobble, but the antiskate doesn't seem to work properly (I set my stylus pressure at under 2 but had to set the antiskate at maximum to keep the arm from sliding immediately over the blank space on the test record). Don't set the volume too high--at a certain point a feedback begins that would probably blow your speakers if you let it go. It's all plastic and light so plan to be very still while listening or the needle will go jumping all over the place.

After doing a lot of research, I landed upon the Denon DP-300F turntable. I didn't want to spend a lot of money but also didn't want sound that wasn't quality or something that just looked cheap.

I paired it with some basic Polk speakers and a Teac receiver that has a Phono input jack. I am thoroughly enjoying my vinyl!

The sound is wonderful and is great for my small apartment. Old vinyl sounds great, and new 180 gram vinyl sounds superb.

I am not an audiophile, but I do like quality sound. The needle that the turntable comes with is fine for me; however, at some point, I will upgrade to a needle that is more top of the line.

All in all, the turntable, speakers, and receiver I purchased from Amazon work perfectly. I am in heaven!

I was looking for a good turntable as I have recently returned to vinyl.

I wanted a vintage one but could not find any near my area. So I started looking for newer models. This one is fantastic. Fully automatic and it came with a cartridge. The standard cartridge wasn't bad, but I upgraded and bought a better one. This turntable gives a fantastic sound. I never realized the great sound from vinyl until now. In the past we just had cheap turntables and cartridges that came in the old record players or consoles. I highly recommend it.

This may be a good turntable but the one I was sold was faulty and Stanton's customer service SUCKS. I have emailed them repeatedly and have received NO response. I hate to review something with a one star when it might be a good product, but I think Stanton is WHACK and you deserve to know that if you go to them for assistance, they probably won't reply. I bought this turntable a year ago and it does not keep consistent sound. I have changed the cartridge twice, recalibrated it 7000 times and now I am going to take it to my local repair shop. It was like this out of the box and like I said, I contacted the customer service department numerous times and have always been ignored. I will not be buying this brand again...

After looking at countless reviews and videos about different turntables I finally decided on the Stanton T.90 USB Turntable. I choose this turntable because of the USB and the fact that it does have a reverse button. This product is a very good beginner turntable because it is simple to use. The only negative thing about this turntable is that IT DOES NOT COME WITH ANY INSTRUCTIONS AT ALL!!!! This was VERY inconvenient because I bought this turntable for my girlfriend who of course had no knowledge of how to put it together. I was a little bit of help because of all the videos I watched on youtube. My suggestion to anyone who buys this is to just type in "stantion T.90" or "how to set up a turntable" and you'll get a few good videos. Unfortunately the videos can only help so much so if you have a friend or family member who knows how to set it up you will probably be better off. Once everything was setup the sound was great and she loved it.

I just wanted to add that the Stanton T.90 is a great turntable and about something that I read somewhere else that says you cannot listen or monitor the records while you are recording them and that's not true all you need is an RCA to Mini plug cable connected to the audio output of the turntable and the line in of the computer sound card and move the switch in the back of the turntable to line you will be able to listen to the audio and correct any playback problem your records might have.

I bought this with hopes of transferring my LPs onto my computer and in turn onto a CD. It doesn't work.

First off, it comes with very little instructions. There is a "users manual," however it does not offer much insight on the actual use of the product. For people not familiar with turntables, like me, the assembley of this product is not at all easy and there are no instructions at all to guide you through.

Second, Amazon as well as the box itself proclaim that this includes a cartridge--it doesn't.

Third, it simply is not built to play a 12 inch record; it will ONLY play 7 inch records. I ask you, what is the point?

Fourth, neither Amazon nor the box this product is shipped in say anything whatsoever about needing speakers and a mixer in order to actually hear any music. For someone like me who doesn't know much about turntables (I grew up on CDs), this fact is not something I shouldn've just known before purchase as though it was something so obvious anyone would've known.

Fifth, the software included that allows you to transfer music from your 7 inch records onto your computer is not easy to use.

I would not recommend this turntable to anyone. Now I have to go through the hassle of returning it (because Amazon doesn't make that easy either).

...don't buy this and then trash it. You get what you pay for. Don't review it like you expect it to be a DJ quality direct drive 1200 series. Good grief.

For those who are casual listeners and not high end audiophiles - in other words if you're shopping for a Honda Civic, you'll get a Honda Civic. If you're shopping for a Rolls Royce and don't want to drop $800 on a turntable, do not buy this.

This is easy to use. It's a belt drive, and despite what some people say - the belt drive comes with the system. You have to put in on yourself. If you can't do that and do not understand the included instructions then seek help. Set up is relatively easy.

I would recommend a slightly better quality p mount cartridge which you can buy separately. Other than that, I'm playing everything from the Beatles and Led Zeppelin to The Jam and The Style Council as well as the Minutemen and Bad Brains. Coltrane's Blue Train sounds great on this system as well.

This is the perfect system for the casual listener, well built, easy to use and a sleek design.

You can adjust the tone arm if you so desire, but it was set up at the factory and runs just fine.

I bought this in 2003 to replace a Technics turntable purchased in 1979, expecting similar service. The 1979 machine played ALL my music until 1988, when I bought my first CD player. Even then, most of my music was on vinyl until the late 90's, and I still used the 1979 turntable for albums I had only in vinyl. This turntable seemed the perfect replacment until the last two months. It slowed, and then stopped working after only 6 years of casual use. The motor has gone belly up, since the post holds the belt and spins will not turn, even with the belt off. Fixya does not have a solution for this problem, and a new cheap (disposable) turntable for a seems an equivalent replacement for this disappointing product.

I've owned this turntable for about 9 years now, and have never been sorry I bought it. It has bounced around the country as I've moved from place to place, and like the proverbial watch, keeps on ticking. No, it's not a 50-pound "reference" unit. And its price reflects that. Its specs don't, however, and in the end you have to ask yourself if what you're after is an emperor whose clothes are invisible to most non-tailors (or sonics measurable only in an anechoic chamber or lab) or the best performance for your scarce entertainment dollar. This turntable delivers on the latter, if not the former.

Admittedly, the cartridge mine shipped with was middling - an entry level design with little oomph or enough output to avoid cranking up the volume a bit on a mid-level integrated amp. Your mileage may vary, as I understand different cartridges have shipped at different times with it. But if you decide the sound's not quite there for your needs, plug in a new p-mount Grado or Audio Technica or Stanton, etc., etc. and instantly upgrade it to whatever level you're willing to pay (I recently upgraded to the Grado Prestige Green). As long as the basics are there (wow/flutter, rumble, reasonable tonearm etc. - and they are with this Technics) you're golden.

My point here is that for the vast majority of users on a reality budget, the SL-BD20 is a fine choice, and if my experience is an indication, a reliable choice as well.

The product came on time. They shipped it really promptly. The parts were intact. Assembly was not difficult. The turntable looks good. Only problem is the sound quality! Does not have enough bass. So the music seems a little bland. I know that it depends on the amplifier I am connecting the turntable to. I have connected it to the Sony Mu-te-ki I have recently bought. My CDs and cassettes sound very good on that Mu-te-ki. So, it seems that the problem is with the turntable. Anyways, I did not expect it to sound gorgeous as it is not that pricey.

this is a great setup for beginners, i like them alot, but i think once u use them alot, u realize they could u use better slip mats and needles. so i have changed the needles to the numark Numark CS-1 Carl Cox Signature Model Stylus. i love them, amazon sells it for like $45. there great. but otherwise these are great turntables, and the mixer is alright, after a while i would get a better mixer. but i really like this product, i would recommend to get better needles. From a beginner's perspective, this is a great place to start learning how to walk through all the fundamentals of DJing. I am notorious for buying stuff that ends up sitting on the shelf collecting dust. So this small investment of $350 will help determine if I'm really cut out for DJing. Those videos online make it look like a piece of cake, but trust me, there is a good reason why everyone is not a DJ. I am primarily using this setup as a way to learn how to scratch. The turntables handle very well, but my only gripe is that the crossfader isn't adjustable. Forget practicing the crab scratch or transforming. The crossfader needs to move about a full cm before getting to full volume, versus a better crossfader that would only need to move 1 mm to achieve full volume. However, there are so many other scratches that can be learned first, its not that big of a deal yet. After mastering the fundamentals, buying a new crossfader will be next on my list. Eventually, will need to replace the turntables with technics and will be buying Serato ... but that's ONLY if I can stick with this new hobby. Only time will tell.

Reviving your LP collection may be simple or complex but it doesn't have to be expensive

If you are thinking of dusting off your turntable and listening to those old vinyl records, you will be in good company.

Thanks to hip-hop and DJs, vinyl records are the in-thing. From 2007 to 2008, vinyl LP production increased from 1 million to 1.88 units in the US.

I only wanted to listen to some old LPs when I dug out my Dual 505 turntable this spring. The 20 year old model had not been used for over decade but it worked. I ordered a new stylus on the Internet for $75.

About the time I got used to getting up every 25 minutes to flip the disk, my 20 year old receiver developed a ground loop hum in the left channel. No one would fix it because the new ones are so cheap.

New receivers under $500 rarely have phono inputs. Magnetic cartridges have extremely low output so a preamplifier is needed. The preamp must follow RIAA equalization to make the music sound the way it was recorded.

After a couple of months of research, I discovered the TEC-754 preamp and RIAA eq on Amazon. The reviews looked good and the price was $78. There were cheaper ones for $30 and $45 that seemed OK but I bought the one that had the lowest noise.

Amazingly, Amazon wouldn't ship that item to Canada so I bought it from the same vendor on eBay.ca for $78.

It came in a week and installed in 30 minutes. I moved the turntable to the TV room where there is a 5.1 surround system (see below). The old Pioneer receiver is going in the trash on Tuesday after 20 years of great service.

Was it worth $150 ?

You bet. The music opens up on vinyl. You can hear the instruments more distinctly and bass is much more powerful and distinct. I also get to hear the hundreds of LPs that have been collected over the decades without buying the CDs.

Would it be worth the thousand of dollars some people spend on hi-end vinyl stereo systems? Probably not in my estimation.

Some of the improved sound may be from the sound treatment that is underway in Katzass Studios. We got a modest number of bass traps and mid to high frequency panels from Real Traps for the studio that are partially installed.

When the double doors to the studio are open, they make a big difference in bass definition. Instead of thump thump, you can hear the kick drum and the notes played by the bassist in detail.

This week has had lots of great moments listening to vinyl. Right now I have Bob Dylan's latest album on the turntable with "Beyond Here Lies Nothing." Sounds good.

This weekend I'll write up a review of The Bootleg Series Volume 5 - Rolling Thunder Review which I found in one of my LP boxes. It demonstrates the strengths and limitations of vinyl.

I bought this wonderful gadget 6 month ago, I use it for my Beogram 2400 and incoming from computer, set top box and big screen to my Beosound from there to my 4 B and O speakers, the sound from my turntable is top and there is no "hum" (remember the ground/chassis wire)the output potentiometer is a good extra to trim the level from the turntable to same level as the other devices. I've had it on since I bought it and during this time I have had brown outs, blackout outs and overload, this gadget just keep on running. 85 volts no problem, 135 volts no problem.

The sound from the turntable is better than some other more expensive devices I have had, the sound from other sources depend on the sources, but for my ears, what comes in comes out as it comes in.

One little thing, the leds are a bit on the bright side.

I bought this because I thought I could not go wrong with this price since I had just purchased new tube amps and I was using my old receiver as a pre-amp. However, I thought the sound from my SACD player was 10 times better if plugged directly into my new amps and thus this started my search for a passive pre-amp. Amazingly, the TCC TC-754 is totally quiet. I can perceive no difference in sound compared to having my components plugged directly into my amp versus being routed through this pre-amp. Although technically there is 20 dB of boost through the line outs, it does not appear to change or alter the signal to my ears. The TNT audio review was extremely helpful as it recommended a power supply upgrade. This upgrade greatly improved the TCC's phono pre-amp capabilities in my system, it really (to borrow an audiophile term) created a much larger sound stage. The phono stage is also pretty quiet but I can hear a slight hiss with the volume turned way up, but by comparison, I hear nothing at all with components turned off from the line outs when the volume is turned all the way up. The phono stage is for moving magnet cartridges only and it matched or slightly surpassed my 1990 Sansui's AV receiver's built in phono stage. One other thing that is important in evaluating audiophile gear, the burn-in or break-in period, I personally don't rationally understand this, but after listening to music through this pre-amp the sound seemed to be further mellowed, improved and warmed after about 50 hours of use. The TNT reviewer was indeed accurate in reporting this pre-amps closest competition would cost several times the TCC price. If your audio system matches well with passive pre-amp or sounds awesome with just the cd player plugged directly into the amplifier then I would highly recommend this little pre-amp! Another TNT audio reviewer's noted that his ~ $10,000 priced amps did not sound good at all with the TC-754. But that particular description reminded me of the same critiques that I have read about passive pre-amps as a class' sound with amps that need the higher gain and the other nuances of active pre-amps, but I am not an expert and I am only guessing. The TC-754 is not equipped with remote control, loudness, balance or tone settings. Instead it is product of elegant simplicity that has met my audio hobby desires perfectly!

After researching for inexpensive moving magnet (MM) cartridges, I would have to say for around $100, it's the best bargain cartridge one can purchase. I was surprised by the results, this cartridge tracks really well all the way into the innter groove of the LP. The microline diamond tip makes this possible. I have never heard my LP sounded this good back in the 80's (but then, it was a whole different set and price scale).

I am replacing an AT440PC that retailed for $270.00 back in 1985 and I loved. This is the current equivalent. I don't think it's quite as sweet sounding as the 440PC, but it's not completely broken in yet. I have owned Grados, Ortifons, and I tried the Sure M97xE before this and I returned it. To me there is no comparison, the AT is a VASTLY superior cartridge to all of these in my system. It gets five stars from me because at the price, I don't believe there is anything to compare to it.

I decided to resurrect my sound system last year. Got tired of seeing it sit in the cabinet collecting dust. Great equipment should be used after all. Those Klipsch speakers have hardly seen any use. There was a time when I spent hours listening to and recording albums on my sound system. Now that the kids are off on their own, time to break out my toys again.

I pulled everything out and gave everything a good once over. If something needed professional attention, the device went into the shop. Everything finally all hooked up and sounding good except for my Technics SL1710 with an ancient AT15sa cartridge.

Shopping around for advice, I came to Amazon.Com to see what I could find here. Liked the write ups on the AT440ML and the price was certainly in my budget. Placed my order.

A few days later, received my new cartridge from Electrinic Expo LLC. Anxious to hear my old albums again, I mounted the cartridge, pulled out my favorite Moody Blues album and gently cued the tonearm. I was amazed! I had just listened to the same album the night before and thought it was missing something. Thought it was a setting on my amp or maybe my equalizer needed tweaking. Now the album sounded clear and I heard passages that I had forgotten about. Delicate notes and tones. I was listening to a dynamic expanse of sound I had been missing before. The music was fuller and more robust while at the same time keeping the highs crisp and clear. I was very pleased.

Then I heard that the AT440ML was no longer available. Vendors were sending out the new AT440MLa in its place. I read how some folks were not happy with this arrangement. I took a closer look at my new cartridge and discovered that it, too, was an AT440MLa! Had I been the victim of a bait and switch sale? This cartridge isn't the one I ordered.

I decided to research the AT440MLa and was pleased to discover that the 440MLa is a superior cartridge. The 440MLa looks the same as the old 440ML, but boy does it ever sound different! It is not nearly as bright as the 440ML. It is much flatter. Bass response is solid and clean with no muddiness. Midrange is very neutral, and the high end is extended with no signs of brightness.

This cartridge sounds extremely refined. Most inexpensive cartridges tend to sound just that, cheap. They are either muddy, or bright and lacking detail. Not this one. It really sounds "expensive". It has what I like to call "layered depth". You don't simply hear the music, you hear into it.

For someone on a budget who desires a great little cartridge, this is the one. The AT440MLa certainly brought my system back to life.

This is the 440MLa. An excellent sound, with plenty of clean, high frequency detail. I don't find it too bright, but there is lots of variation, depending on the record. Good records really show up nicely. Much less tracking distortion that I'm used to and not the warm sound of the Grados, which I don't miss. My only gripe is the low tracking force...1.4g means it is easy for clumsy people, like me, to bump the stylus out of the groove.

just got this in the mail today, and i'm more or less happy with it. the main complaints seem to be a) lack of separated speakers, which doesn't bother me, and b) low-quality speakers, which, as a non-audiophile, whatever they used works fine for me. sound is a bit muffled, but i imagine that comes from the speakers being in a small, compact cabinet.

the one INEXCUSABLE absence, however, is the lack of outputs. so you can never wire this to your home stereo or listen through the solitude of headphones. maybe this option wasn't found in the stack players of the 50's and 60's, but these days it is a must.

It makes old records sound good again. It has a precise auto-change mechanism, a default spindle setup for our small centre holes, and the sound quality from the speakers with a Tone only dial, is similar to listening to a mono radio. It's all good when playing our old records (45s that are 45 years old) because modern sound systems exaggerate the faults as in hiss, crackle and pops. Children are discovering the slower pace while watching the records drop and listening to songs that tell stories with lyrics that make sense. The reason for only 4 stars is because the styli are not sold to countries outside of the States. I am having to get them delivered to a friend first before being forwarded to me in New Zealand. I am going to pursue this with the NZ supplier.

It's so nice to get the records out again and turn the T.V. off for the evening.

We bought a different turntable for my 86 year old Mom and you had to pick up the arm and set it on the record. Well, my Mom is going blind and it was hard for me to do it much less Mom. We returned the "All-in-one player" and bought this model. It was just like we remembered when we were kids. Mom can stack the albums, yes I said albums, put the holding arm over them, and turn it on. It is so easy for her to use and the sound is just great. Mom can enjoy her music again and not have to figure out some new-fangled-contraption. Thank you Crosley for giving my Mom back her tunes.

I was worried about the sound quality on one of these portable record players but this one is great. I'm really happy with it. It looks really cool - great design. The stackomatic feature is nice, it automatically drops and plays your records. It even will repeat the same record over and over and over which is nice while cleaning your house etc, etc. With all my music on my computer, and no need for a home stereo anymore, this was a great way to keep my records around while getting rid of the big ugly and bulky stereo system.

I had the same sort of hum problem as others have reported. It sure sounds like a poor ground, except that in my case the hum (low volume but noticeable) got onto the recordings and was at an intolerable volume level on the line out and the headphone jack. I worked with Numark tech support (similar long waits for someone to respond), but they were not able to help so I tried to return it to Amazon's supplier - Etronics - for a replacement. Unfortunately, their conditions are totally unreasonable - you have to pay shipping and insurance and the box must be undamaged and without any extra tape!!! For gosh sakes, my wife wrapped it for me as a gift, so it had extra tape. (One wonders if their business approach is to repackage defective returned items and send them to others as new.) Then I tried to return it directly to Numark and it took 2 weeks to get the return label. They were very polite and do pay shipping, however, so my unit is now on its way to Numark for repair. Let's hope it comes back OK, because it really is a pretty decent product. Other than the hum, my biggest gripe is that the "autotrack" feature is hit and miss, often placing the new tracks in the wrong places. I found it more accurate to set the track marks myself, manually. Another gripe - the software for editing the sound only works with MP3 format, and when you copy it to a computer it sends the audio as MP3, so you cannot produce truly high fidelity recordings through a computer - only if you record directly from the unit to the CD do you capture the full original fidelity. But that part works fine except for the hum and the autotrack. The autotrack I can live with. The hum will have to be fixed or I'll return it for good. Bottom line - if you can get one that doesn't have the hum, it works as a turntable, as a CD recorder or for CD playback, and is relatively easy to use considering the complexities of what it does.

By the way, Numark says the ION unit is essentially the same, although one source claimed the ION can only handle one speed. The Numark can handle 33, 45 or 78 RPM.

The Numark LP2CD turntable works well but the manual does not

cover enough information for a non-techie to trouble shoot. The turntable works on my new receiver but not as the manual suggests, you activate the phono switch on the turntable and then connect the turntable either to the Tape in and CD in slot in the back of the receiver. The my new receiver needs to have the turntable cable with a grounding wire which the Numark turntable cable lacks. The result is a hum and using the tape or cd in slot stops the hum.( P.S. a call to Numark Tech support did not direct me to this conclusion, I found it by trial and error)

I installed the item according to instructions, including connection to a grounded outlet. Unfortunately I had to return the item because I could not get rid of hissing and humming when playing (almost new) LPs and CDs, even though the same CDs played flawlessly on a separate CD player hooked up to my stereo system (radio, separate CD-player, speakers. I am therefore quite certain that the problem is not related to my stereo system.

Furthermore, when playing a classical record to be recorded on its internal flash memory the item produced false track separations.

I tried to reach Numark technical support, but had to wait in the queue for 23 minutes. Then someone came on the line and put me on hold. After another 10 minutes the connection broke down. I called back to leave the message I would return the player unless I was called back immediately. I did not get any call at all, and it's now four days since I called.

The player is on its way to Amazon.

Just got mine today. So far, I give it 5 stars.

Very easy to use, seems high quality. Ive recorded 4 LPs, and burnt 4 CDs from the recordings. Works great as a stand alone unit for transferring LPs to CD. It includes software for more advanced recording using your computer to edit and fine tune the recording. I just plugged it in, and used the supplied audio leads to plug into the face of my home stereo so I could listen to the music while it did the recording. After it records the LP, you just insert a blank CD and press the burn CD button, its that simple. Quality of the record playing and the playback of the finished CD were both excellent. I looked at many of the lower priced LP2CD players, and most all had bad reviews. I think paying a little extra for this model was a wise move. I`m VERY impressed. After much searching, I found mine new on ebay for $340.00 delivered, and it was at my door in 3 days. Some assembly was required, just putting the counterweight on the tone arm, and adjusting it properly. Had to put the platter on, and the drive belt, but it was all very easy and allowed me to fully appreciate the quality. I have not tried the computer software yet, so I am unable to comment on that at this time.

Pros: Quality workmanship, easy to use, good solid unit.

Excellent sound quality.

Cons: $500 list price is too high, you can get it cheaper if you shop around

The Bottom Line: I highly recommend this one, for overall quality, ease of use.

Both the record player, and the CDs it burnt, sound was perfect.

Cost/benefit curves typically have a "knee" in them. Below the knee you pay a little more and get a lot more. Above the knee you pay a lot more to get a little more.

As far as I can tell this turntable is at the sweet spot slightly above the knee. A rock solid heavyweight, impervious to vibration, bulletproof, sounds great...what more could you ask for?

This thing is great. I really don't understand why anyone would want/need to spend more. It has all the alignment tools needed. It can do anything and everything. Most of all, it sounds great. The cartridge that comes with it will get you started, but mate this turn table with a Shure M97xE Hi-Fi Phono Cartridge and you got yourself a wonderful sounding turn table for the audiophile on a budget and more really. I've been in to audio for a long time now, and money doesn't always equal great sound. I favor the sound of this turn table with the upgraded cartridge and good vinyl to my SACD player. It's softer, but it just seems to have more detail and life to it. I hate most audio reviews that abuse words, so I'm not going to bother. Norah Jones voice sounds AMAZING!!!! Hows that for simple? I have her on SACD too. I like the 200g vinyl and this turn table with the upgrades better.

Only down side. Don't use the internal amp. It has no bass. FYI, one of your older HT amps might just have a gem of a phono amp, and preamp outs on it. :)

The SL-1200MK2 turntable represents an amazing value for audiophiles that want to get back into the fun and charm of spinning vinyl. I paired mine with a Denon DL-160 cartridge. It sounds nice, really nice. Warm, many times better than many CDs.

The fact is, there are a lot of good turntables. When you consider how relatively small the market it, there is an amazing amount of offerings. The problem is, the industry likes to complicate matters. If you read enough audiophile blogs, getting the sound right is almost impossible.

I have never seen such a nice piece of equipment, not matter the price. The quality to everything on the Technics SL-1200MK2 is outstanding.

What you want in a turntable is what the SL-1200MK2 has. It's heavy duty, I almost dropped to my knees when the Fedex guy handed me the box. You want the platter to spin at a very accurate rate, and thanks to the silent DC motor and heft of the turntable, you can place the Technics right next to a subwoofer and the cartridge is still isolated from any rumble. Now, I wouldn't suggest doing it, but it just illustrates how well designed this piece of equipment is.

Simply put, for thirty years this turntable has spun records at a constant speed, period. The tonearm is fine, just match it with the best cartridge you can afford,follow the installation instructions carefully, then sit back and enjoy.

Just a DJ turntable? No way. It spins the record at incredible accurate speed. Thats any turntables main task, simple as that. Check the wow and flutter specs, they're excellent.

The other question is, are there better turntables? Sure, but who wants to pay thousands of dollars to listen to used records that you're picking up for 1-3 bucks a piece at a dusty record store? Pair the Technics with a decent Shure cartridge and you'll be satisfied. There's no better turntable at this price. Yes, you can spend $64,000 for a turntable (there was one at a just concluded Consumer Electronics Show, it had four tonearms and looked really cool) but that's just foolish. There are audiophiles, and then there are people who will never be happy with what they hear, not matter what they spend. And once they have spent lots of money, they have to justify the purchase.

I wish all makers of equipment offered this kind of value. Technics should be lauded for keeping this model in production.

My girlfriend and I are having lots of fun buying old records, then sitting and listening to music instead of hearing all the negaholic banter on television. A record player is a great, inexpensive way to have fun during this recession. You will get hours of fun with this turntable.

I was excited to get the alert that the turntable was delivered. When I got home, I noticed the shipping label was on the long side of the box (meaning, it wasn't shipped flat for the most part). When I picked it up, I heard some rattling and I prepared for the worst. Upon opening, I'd noticed the plastic shell connecting the tone arm to the turntable body was broken off (probably due to the arm weight, which was flopping around freely in the box), and the ground wire was snapped off. I immediately took a couple of pictures and sent an RMA request to [...]. I was told to expect an RMA slip in one to two weeks. Then, after another one to two weeks, they'd decide if I'd get a replacement or a refund. I thought this was unacceptable, so I broke out the soldering iron and the crazy glue and 10 minutes later it was like it never happened.

So I take it home and hook it up. It's replacing my old automatic turntable, so it took me a few minutes to actually get used to having control over playback. It comes with a nice cartridge, It sounds very nice, and it's a great deal as long as yours arrives in one piece! I also purchased the pre-amp, although my old Pioneer amp in the basement has a phono input, though I plan on replacing it.

I still haven't received that RMA, either. :)

I wanted a low-cost turntable without a built-in pre-amp. This model fits the bill perfectly. In the short time I've had it, I have been impressed by its performance. It meets my requirements to play my 40 year old LP's for conversion to MP3. The only problem I encountered was a missing headshell and stylus in the factory sealed box. The seller immediately took care of the problem and mailed me replacement parts.

My turntable has the "wobble" effect going on. A brand new turntable should not wobble! Upon further examination, I realized that the plastic platter was warped! (I've seen other reviews here with this complaint). I would return it, but Ritz's return policy is kind of crazy: must return all original plastic bags!? must pay own shipping?? Will not refund original shipping costs?

I suppose I will either try to find a replacement platter or I will suffer with the wobbling turntable.

- Stroboscope and pitch adjustment are a godsend. with one of my old turntables, if the RPMs were slightly off, there was nothing you can do about it. Now with this its completely adjustable.

- The arm and stylus are weighted perfectly and are completely adjustable. No skating.

- Rubber soles on the bottom of the turntable eliminate almost all vibration.

- Sounds amazing.

NOTE: you MUST have a pre-amp. It outputs to Phono, rather than line level so you need to run it through a preamp. It doesn't say anything about this in the product description but i'm just letting it be known.

I have two complaints: the stand and cover are both plastic which makes it a little less attractive and when we received it the hooks that keep the cover on were broken. I'm a retired teacher, with lots of time and vinyl but not much money, so I bought this turntable to digitize my collection because it was the lowest price I could find. I really can't complain, because it does the one thing I wanted, sending the signal into my computer. There was a promise from the maker that the software would automatically divide the tracks and take me online to get info about each track, but the "EZ Vinyl Tape Converter" shipped with the unit just isn't capable of such things. It takes you online to a site that claims to have information one can have for a price (see above, "not much money"), and it never, ever got the tracks sorted out correctly. I have to do that myself pretty well by hand, using Audacity. Do I care? Not really, because I have lots of time. If your time is precious, maybe you should buy something more upscale; but if you're like me and just want your old vinyl digitized for minimum cost, this is what you need.

First of all, the $279 Price Tag can't be right. I bought this at Guitar Center for $60.

It's pretty decent for a portable turntable if you want to take something small and light out to the record store to sample some music before you buy. It has a decent built in speaker/headphone jack/and RCA outputs. This is nice for when you want to listen to records somewhere other than where your main stereo set up is.

As far as archiving, this is a piece of junk. If you really don't care about preserving all the great quality from your vinyl then you won't mind but this thing can't really handle most music. Also, the program it comes with kind of sucks.

I would recommend spending a decent amount of money on a heavier turn table and upgrading the sound card on your computer if you care about quality. Even if you decide to buy this, don't pay more than $75.

This item is filled with gratuitous functions that should be removed to improve the model overall. For example, battery operation? Is that really necessary? How many people are actually going to take this to the park and play records. To me it was designed only to transfer vinyl to digital format. That's it. With that said it really doesn't need a built-in speaker either. Finally, my biggest complaint is that the unit tends to fluctuate in pitch. This is terrible for djs that want to go digital as it is essential to maintain a constant pitch in order to mix another song. That problem REALLY needs to be addressed by Numark and until they do so I would advise against purchasing this model.

The wooden base is original and acts as a hidden draw for storing the fluid and spare styli. The fluid is just distilled water and is not anti-static, the felt pad takes ages to dry for a second session of cleaning and in combination with the water does a poor job. Try it if you want 3 needles, but you'll be looking for something else to clean records with.

I repacked this turntable the same night I received it. The "only" instructions that came with this turntable were the how to assemble it, which was a breeze. The product itself did not work with neither one of my computers. According to the product description and the photo on the box the turntable is supposed to be a plug and play. NOT! I sent this product back and went to a local electronics store and spent $10 more and bought a Sony turntable. The assembly was even more of a breeze (for anyone that has some sort of common sense) and I was up and running within 5 minutes.

At first I thought they shipped this table without a belt, maybe I was influenced by the previous reviewer

But the belt is there wrapped around the bottom of the platter.

All you have to do is line the square hole in the platter over the pulley and stretch the belt over the pulley

You might have to use something like the tip of a knife to get between the belt and the platter, be careful.

Just read the instructions first and you should be OK. My bad.

Now that I got it running everything seems to work and it sounds good too. You also can upgrade the cartridge if you like or get a 78 cartridge as well. I haven't got a chance to transfer any tracts to the pc yet but so far it works great as a stand alone turntable.

High recommend.

"Denon Keeps A Generation of Turntables Alive" 2009-01-14

I tend to agree with certain points from most of the previous reviews already written on this piece. The DENON DP-500M is certainly part of a rare and disappearing breed of turntable. A high-end, massively constructed Japanese turntable so commonly found in the 80's and early 90's, has become harder and harder to find these days. In fact, as far as I know, it's the only one of it's kind comming out of Japan anymore...at least that has made it's way to the States.

Regardless, it is an elegantly and durably built table that takes a no-frills approach to vinyl playback. It lacks the automation and dynamic servo tonearms of generations past, but apparently also lacks some of the associated problems from previous models. However, I have to admit, I never had any issues with my similarly featured JVC QLY-55F model that has given me 20+ years of perfect service.

Maybe my ear isn't as finely tuned as some of your reviewrs, but with over 35 years of selling and enjoying high quality audio products I find very little to criticize when discussing the sound eminating from my DP-500M and the ORTOFON 2M BRONZE moving magnet cartridge I installed. It is certainly free from any disearnable coloration or lack of detail. Quite the contrary, I find the sound to be very smooth, colorless and even somewhat neutral.

Granted, I am currently using this turntable in what I would classify as a "mid-fi" set up with a MUSIC HALL PA-2 phono pre-amp stage coupled to a MARANTZ SR-8002 receiver and driving a CAMBRIDGE SOUNDWORKS NEWTON top of the line speaker set up. But nevertheless, given my budget constraints and having owned significantly more costly components in my younger days, I find this current set-up to be quite satisfying.

As for the price...well...it's not the cheapest turntable on the market, but let's face it, in a world where you can spend tens of thousands of dollars on an analog playback system, this ain't a bad return on your investment!

High praise to Denon for keeping a generation of enthusiests excited about analog playback and enabling us to own a gorgeous reliable turntable for well under $1000!

Denon is to be commended for replacing their previous micro-processor turntables with a more basic unit. This machine has no bells and whistles such as speed control, stobe, slip mat, or supplied cartridge. Such things are fine for professional use, but an audiophile user at home has no real need for such items. They more likely just want a solid table that will rotate at the correct speed, and track their records accurately and without distortion. They would probably also prefer to chose the cartridge with the help of a dealer. After several months use with a number of mid-piced cartridges, I can attest that The DP-500M performs these functions admirably. It also looks very attractive.

I have wanted a Denon DD manual turntable ever since I first saw and heard the unfortunately departed DP-62F.

I finally bit the bullet and bought the DP-500M. It may very well be the last of a breed, but I am so happy with how this table was easy to set up, and more importantly, how wonderful it sounds. It's a pleasure to listen to my collection of LPS again!

For the price, you can't do better. I've listened to several of the current crop of Belt drive manuals that cost hundreds more, and they don't sound as good as this table does.

For the money, you can't go wrong.

"What Happened Denon ???" 2004-08-03

The Denon DP-500MX is sort of the (half-hearted) continuation or in a long lineage of their high end audiophile turntables of years gone by.The two major questions I have for Denon is why they didn't make this newer model with improved or solid and reliable automatic micro-processed features and why the price? Obviously, turntables are not in high demand for home use any more. But, if a company is going to develop a pricey 'table, give us some reliable and solidly built bells and whistles to go with it... The last high end model was the micro-processed controlled DP-47F from the mid 90's.It was the last of a dying breed of fully automatic players for vinyl enthusiasts to revive the venerable l.p.It was a gorgeous piece of an audio component loaded with all the automated and computerized gizmos any hi-fi tech junkie could possibly desire (servo computer controlled tonearm, laser light to detect record size,precise cueing of the arm in either direction without ever touching the arm itself, heavy,shiny rosewood base, etc.)The only major drawback of the computerized loaded Denons was when a circuitboard or chip burned out or problems developed with the automated arm, without warranty, repairs became costly and parts were scarce and almost non-existant.On top, you had to find yourself a specialized turntable repair guy who not only could fix the mechanical issues, but who thoroughly understood and could repair or replace microprocessors(in this day and age VERY few turntable repair techs out there). The later Denon turntables proved to be finicky and touchy machines that would develop arm, servo motor, or speed playback problems...In the end they were pretty to look at but not reliable in the long run and expensive to repair.Just look at some of the Denons listed on eBay (some are listed to sell but with major computerized arm or motor speed fluctuation issues ). Still, their playback operation was ultra-smooth, precise and extremely quiet.That servo-computerized tonearm was something to marvel at.Unfortunately, the tradeoff that was sacrificed for all the electronic micro-processed controls was long lasting reliable durability! Hmmm...Maybe this is why Denon finally decided to go the manual route and avoid the high tech automatic controls that would malfunction sooner or later ?...

After testing out this turntable I was no more impressed or floored than using my reliable Technics SL1200 M3D...The MAJOR advantage the Technics has over this Denon is that it can be used either as a true bonafide DJ turntable or a home deck to listen to records and transfer some vinyl to cd-r format.The Denon is only an in home deck and sports no fine pitch control slide or dial or any other "user-friendly" sound/play-back adjustment except for the anti-skating control. This is used for decreasing inner-groove sound distortion. A tonearm will tend to drift and lean in more towards the left-inside channel as the needle nears the end of playback...

Now, fast forward to the present. In all likelihood Denon has probably addressed these automated/computerized/servo-motor issues by coming up with a manual operating turntable.Nothing gimmicky or electronic to malfunction.Straight and simple playback operation of your favorite vinyl tunes.The DP-500MX is simple,classy, yet understated in looks and mechanical design.It's in the internal makings that you get quiet and stable high performance from it's quartz-speed accurate controlled direct drive motor (that's right folks, no belts to break or stretch or replace, YAY !).It's contemporary styling and looks are decent to say the least. It's playback performance is ultra smooth. To get the most out of this turntable it should be used with a mid to high end audiophile grade cartridge (Audio Technica AT 440ML, any Grado cartridge in the Prestige series or higher---just to name a few).Again, this is not a DJ turntable. Buying a DJ or low grade cartridge/stylus would be a mistake. This time Denon has gone the extra mile to make the platter and base heavy and coat the underside of the platter to keep both internal(direct drive motor vibrations) and external noise or rumble away from the phono pick up stage. You get clear vinyl playback (though you still get the normal pops, ticks, and clicks inherent in analog vinyl). No distortion from any kind of unwanted feedback in the audio chain. This is a major plus !

As for the price you may ask? OUCH !!! You really have to be a die hard Denon fan. There are other top reputable name brands out there that sell their 'tables with more features and a higher reliability track record than Denon.Their cost is much lower or somewhat comparable to this Denon's price tag.However, since this Denon lacks any computer controlled or microprocessor automated functions (one -less- thing- to- break- down theory), it's reliability factor has shot up by a whopping margin. Only time will tell if Denon has hit the bulls-eye right this time with their manual, no frills approach (this is not the first manually driven Denon---the 60's and 70's produced some highly sought after models).If you are going for style,simplicity,solid build, improvement on noise filtering/isolation playback characteristics, the Denon fits the bill. HOWEVER, it is a very pricy bill at that!

Due to the heavy price tag issue(for a turntable in this class or range), lacking improved or updated automated features (couch potatos will not like this model at all),but still possessing both a solid anti-vibration platter and plinth chasis and motor build, 3 stars!

I looked into purchasing many turntables in the "audiophile" category. After doing quite a bit of research, I found the following information rather helpful:

a) This turntable was designed in the 70s as state-of-the-art. The Technics factory had to tool-up to create it. The cost today would be in the millions to get a factory to begin producing something comparable. The market is simply no longer there to do so.

b) The magnetic direct drive system allows incredibly impressive wow and flutter and rumble specs. I can confirm black backgrounds and deadly accurate speeds. No piano warbles. Details like that are very important to me. The audiophile brands will have you believe that belt drive is superior. Why? See (a)

c) This thing is built like a tank. Im not sure of the exact weight (25lbs?), but I'm always surprised when I try to move it. I can imagine it will be around long after I have departed.

I paired this TT with an AT440MLA. I no longer listen to CDs at home if the vinyl is available. Good vinyl + this turntable is vastly superior.

Upgrades are available if you'd like a new tonearm or cabling. Check KAB USA for other stuff like fluid damping and strobe-disabling.

I've used a lot of turntables over the years. My application is getting he best possible sound out of old vinyl, primarily for digitizing.

I've recently upgraded my whole system for this purpose, and this turntable is part of that upgrade.

This is the most solid, quietest, and impressive turntable I've seen. Unlike my old Thorens, this one looks and feels like it will last forever. Rumble is way below lathe rumble in the disks themselves, and the torque must be experienced to be believed. I can apply quite a bit of effort on cleaning grungy vinyl without stalling it - a huge advantage over belt drive turntables.

The tonearm is well made, and tracks warped vinyl better than almost anything I've used.

There is some low-frequency lateral resonance when playing poorly mastered records, but it's well below audible frequencies and easily filtered out.

If you want to spend more you probably can, but I sincerely doubt there's a better turntable for any practical purposes.

Some might regret the lack of automatic turn-off, but I like the simplicity of the design.

Everyone knows these tables are built like tanks and will last forever. Not many people realize however that the 1200 sounds great too. With a good cartridge (I use a Shure M97xe) this table absolutely cannot be beat for sound quality by any table anywhere NEAR it's price range.

Go ahead and compare the rumble and wow and flutter specs between the Technics 1200 and any of the belt drive 'audiophile' tables under $2000. If you do this you'll find two things; most companies won't publish these specs (guess why,) the ones that do are producing tables with inferior specs to the Technics 1200.

Let the uninformed have their plastic belt drive toy tables, I'm keeping a 1200 on my shelf. Unrivaled reliability and specs plus dead solid locked rpms for me thank you.

I searched around for one of these all-in-one entertainment

units and chose this one because it recorded with

the use of a jump drive inserted into a slot in the front.

It was very easy to use. Simply insert the jump drive,

hit "Record", and start playing the album. Worked like a charm.

From there, you can just upload the mp3 onto your computer and

burn it to CD or do whatever you like with it.

The unit looks very nice. (I bought the oak one rather than

paprika). The sound is not particulary powerful, but it's clear

and sufficient enough for casual listening. If I ever want to

crank it up, it does have external speaker outputs in the back.

The one negative aspect is the fact that the record player arm

does not return to its starting position when the album is done

playing. The album stops spinning when it reaches the end, but

the arm just stays sitting on the album. However, that's no big

deal since, once the album's done playing, I want to put it back

into the sleeve.

Overall, I'm very happy with my purchase.

If you buy the more expensive machine, you'll probably not be near as frustrated with the little things this one doesn't do, or does poorly. Box is attractive, but workmanship is lacking in quality. I have wished for years that there was a machine that could record my albums and I found this by chance and was thrilled. I read the directions carefully. I could not get the auto track feature to work so I have to hang around closely to change the tracks. I could live with that but then the recording part wasn't working and that's why I got it! I kept wasting CD's and time listening to a whole album or cassette only to find that it recorded 9 minutes!. I took it back and got another one. The auto track does not work again and I called their phone number and could not get through. It started recording fine and then would mess up again. I finally noticed a grinding/shaking noise from the recorder and realized that was when it would not record. This one will record 2 or 3 CD's and then mess up one so I am debating whether to return it again. I may get one that works perfectly, even the auto tracking and not have to check each CD again OR it could be worse. I REALLY want this to work. I have albums and cassettes waiting to be recorded! So far I just keep checking the recorder by putting my ear to it every once in awhile to see if I hear that noise.

I recently bought a model like this, having wanted one for at least 10 years. The record player works better than the CD player. It's a good 3 speed turntable & I was surprised to see that the tone arm automatically returns at the end of the record instead of just staying there. However, sometimes the records sound slightly quivery or shakey. The tape player is good,though it doesn't automatically flip over the tape at the end like my car tape player does. The radio is fine. The overall sound quality of the unit is good with plenty of bass. However, I am disappointed with the CD player. When I am listening to a CD, near the end of a song, the player often abruptly stops the song several seconds before the end. For example, when I played my "Houses Of The Holy" by Led Zeppelin CD, on the track "The Crunge", the player abruptly stopped before the man asks "Where's that confounded bridge?" And when the next track comes on, I notice a slight fade-in at the beginning of the song. I've never seen a CD player do this & don't understand why it would do so. Is it a defect? When I listen to a CD, I want to hear every single note on it! For these reasons,I haven't yet tried its CD recorder. I'll stick with this, though I'll also stick with my other stereo system with the CD player that plays ALL the music on my CD's.

I just bought one of these yesterday. I've been looking for a USB turntable for a couple of weeks. So many reviews for various turntables have been contradictory, with some customers loving one and some thinking that it's a piece of junk, that when I saw this item in the store, (a rarity), I decided to just take a chance and hope that maybe it would do what I wanted it to: simply record onto CD some of my old albums.

I followed the directions to the letter. The turntable plays fine, and while the sound isn't as full and lush like I would expect with a real stereo system, it's acceptable for my purposes. The problems came in when I tried to finalize the CD. While recording, it indicated that it was recording everthing, although some of the tracks weren't separated--a problem I figured I'd fix later with aftermarket software. When it was done recording, however, it went from saying there were 18 tracks to only two. I tried to play the CD on the unit and it only played for a couple of minutes. To see what was going on, I finalized the disc and popped it in my PC. The computer says it's empty.

I have gone through the directions repeatedly, and tried to record the same album now three times. No change. I am going to pack it back up and return it.

I might also like to add that the finish on the woodwork is very rough and substandard. I was willing to overlook that detail if the player and recorder worked, but altogether, this is a very disappointing purchase. I did try the radio, and it works. Didn't bother with the tape player. I don't want to risk sacrificing any tapes in this questionable machine.

I think I will try one of the Sony or ION USB turntables instead.

The Crosley Stack-O-Matic replacement needle really comes in handy when you're worn out that old needle on your Crosley "Stack-O-Matic" phonograph! Now of course I'm showing my age here by reviewing a phonograph needle; but hey, I still like the sound of vinyl record albums when I listen to my music.

The needle replacement instructions are very clear on the reverse of the package that you get in the mail when you order the needle. The plastic and thin cardboard package looks exactly like the one pictured above on this webpage. In addition, the replacement needle comes well packed in a bubble wrapped envelope; that's good for when the post office plays soccer with the package as it's en route to your home.

One note, however: this needle will only be useful for the Crosley brand "Stack-O-Matic" record players. It is not at all recommended for use on other brands of turntables or other brands of record players--it may not fit or it could break or even do damage to the turntable arm or your records.

Although Crosley recommends that you change needles every 1,000 hours of playing time, there are instances in which you will need a replacement needle much, much sooner than this. In my case, I recently wanted to play a record; but the tiny little hole in the middle of the record was just a tad too wide; and therefore the record didn't drop down onto the turntable! When the turntable arm and its needle fell onto the solid surface near the turntable, the needle consequently became slightly damaged. If this happens, the current needle will still play your records but it could easily do damage to the grooves on the records in the longer run; get a replacement needle and install it like I did.

Score a huge goal for Crosley with their "Stack-O-Matic" replacement phonograph needle. Grab an extra needle if you want to make sure you always have an extra one on hand--and listen to some tunes TODAY!

I got 2 very recently and I'm satisfied with them. They seem to work fairly well on my 1200s. I say satisfied because for the price ($50 a piece), you can't really expect more.

They're not as well built as the ortofons and they don't come in carrying cases (like the ortofons). They also don't seem to track as well as the ortofons or the ever-reliable shure 447s. I have some concern on its tracking ability near the edge of the vinyl, specially on white labels. I've found that the only way to overcome this is by maxing the tracking force at +6.

But still, not bad for 50 bucks.

This stylus is so superior to the one that comes with the turntable that I am actually glad the cleaning people ruined it. I keep the needle protector on now, whenever it is not in use. Even albums that my kids destroyed twenty five years ago track well. It is rare to get a skip and the pops and crackle just lend character and authenticity to the sound. This is a good upgrade to the Newmark USB Turntable.

Very cheaply made -- when I play a record, I can hear radio static with muffled voices coming through the speaker. Heavy records make the turntable surface tilt, causing the record's edge to scrape the side of the unit. One of the worst purchases I have ever made. Stay away from this player -- it looks cool but as far playing records, it's a piece of junk.
